New Gear has Arrived!
After much thought, planning, researching, spending, and waiting, my new live performance rig is finally complete! In the last few weeks, I've blogged about ordering a new computer to use on stage with me, problems with a pedal, and a few other things. All of those issues *appear* to be *solved*, and it's now up to me to make sure that I fully utilize the tools I have for live shows.
I have set a self-imposed deadline for getting my new live show up to speed. Why? Because I need it, and because I really, really think you all are going to want to see this in action - sooner than later. (Less talk about it, Mathes, and more prepping it!) So here it is: by March 3rd, my re-tooled live equipment setup will be performance-ready.
For those curious, here's my setup: I'm running one acoustic and one electric into a Boss LS-2 (AB box), into an Apogee Gio, into Logic/Mainstage (depending on the song). I'm using the stereo output of the Gio to connect to the house PA system.
"We are very, very close..."
I just got word from The Gap on Friday. John Alagia still has not selected a winner for the Best Song contest, but according to representative, Michael Balser, "We are very, very close to determining a winner." I am still confident in the music that I submitted, and look forward to hearing the results of this contest. I would be humbled and honored to be selected - and hope that I am! Again, this contest began with over 15,000 applicants, whittled down to 750, then carved down to the top 50, where I still remain standing. One, grand prize winner will receive a one-album production deal with John Alagia.

Music Video to be Co-Produced with Nick Gray
Hi, everyone! I just wanted to let you all know that it looks like a good friend of mine, Nick Gray, over at shadeofgraydesign.com (he does mostly web design, but he's getting in to video), and I are going to be working together on my debut music video. We're still talking it through, but it's all in the works. In fact, I expect a call from Nick this week... I'll keep you all in the loop. -JM

Just Announced! Jay is in the Top 50!
Just confirmed today, via email, Jay has placed in the top 50 of The Gap's Best Song Contest. As a finalist, Jay's music will now be heard by legendary music producer, John Alagia (producer for John Mayer, Jason Mraz, Josh Kelley, OAR, Ben Folds, Dave Matthews Band), who will select one grand prize winner for a single album production deal. The winner is expected to be announced on October 21st.
All-New YouTube Channel Promotion
I needed to let you all know about this new promotion I'm doing for my YouTube channel:
If you're one of the first 50 channel subscribers, I'll send you a link to download my new album, Glimmer, for free. No other strings attached.
For those of you who are already subscribers, if you get 5 or more friends to subscribe, I'll let you tell me what you want me to give you - within reason, of course. For starters, whatever it is has to relate to my music. Some examples might be: a T-shirt, a CD, buttons, stickers, or other merch, maybe an autographed baseball, a song written just for you, a digital copy of the music video I'm working on right now, etc.
If you're up for the challenge, you could really help me out.
